Introduction

In today’s office environment, IT misuse is now known to be far more widespread and sophisticated than previously believed. With Information Technology in every workplace, at every level, the real threat from misuse is increasing.

As the use of IT revolutionises the workplace, your need to monitor performance and efficiency must be paramount. With rigorous IT control systems in place, your organisation can promote effective working practices and anticipate/prevent possible breaches of security, confidentiality or even fraud. All of which, if neglected, may result in loss of revenue and productivity.

The opportunity now exists to minimise misuse and maximise productivity with Omniquad Desktop Surveillance, a powerful supervision tool enabling you to address your need to increase enterprise productivity, monitor performance, control access, prevent misuse and effectively manage intelligence.

Omniquad Desktop Surveillance combines:

Key Benefits

Minimising Misuse
Implementing its unique ability to monitor content security, Omniquad Desktop Surveillance allows you to minimise time, money and resources otherwise lost to counter productive and potentially harmful activities. In planning for future growth, particularly with the increasing use of the Internet and e-commerce, the implementation of effective information security policies is critical to protect your most valuable asset - Information.

Management Intelligence
With the need to achieve ever-greater efficiencies by means of improving performance and productivity, the ability to control costs must be based on accurate, reliable and cost effective intelligence. Omniquad Desktop Surveillance, as an activity-monitoring tool, allows you to highlight user work patterns and trends across your networks, providing you with actionable intelligence.

The very fact that Desktop Surveillance is running on a system can be a deterrent to misuse.

The compiled activity logs will enable you to generate accurate user reports on accessed web sites, applications, files and network resources. All information is stored in one convenient resource, which can be inspected directly, or imported into a spreadsheet or database for further analysis and data mining.

Security Intelligence
Information stored in the Omniquad Desktop Surveillance activity logs may expose questionable usage patterns and reveal breaches of security.

Any user activity, application or keystroke sequence can, if required, trigger video-like recording and generate visual records, which can be inspected at leisure.

Careful product design now allows an administrator to instruct Omniquad Desktop Surveillance to monitor and record only unusual, unsolicited or prohibited activities. It may also be used covertly, totally invisible to network users. Surveillance records may then be forwarded away to a secured SMTP mail host or stored on an FTP server.

Until now, users intent on misuse have been able to freely do so, aware of the difficulty in tracking and recording their activities. Omniquad Desktop Surveillance now addresses this issue at source and provides a secure platform for complete intelligence management.

Securing quality of Internet content
As the use of the Internet and in all businesses becomes increasingly commonplace, so is the probability of users accessing undesirable content.

Instead of your organisation being forced to adapt to policies and approaches imposed by rigid content filtering and blocking tools, Omniquad Desktop Surveillance possesses the ability to reflect your organisations Acceptable Usage Policy
(A.U.P).

When undesirable content is accessed, Omniquad Desktop Surveillance allows you to react in a variety of ways:

- The Acceptable Usage Policy (A.U.P.) can be displayed to the user and recording can be automatically turned on.
- Recording can be turned on and the network administrator alerted.
- The content can be blocked.
- The end workstation can be shut down and the user will need to contact the network administrator.
- The network administrator can further customise Omniquad Desktop Surveillance by instructing it to recognise only approved business-related web sites, whilst blocking all others.

Access Control
Omniquad Desktop Surveillance can block virtually any activity that can take place on an end-user desktop.

Not only can it block adult and illicit content, it can also deny access to individual system and display settings, applications, web sites, documents, files, folders or even network resources.

Blocking facilities in Omniquad Desktop Surveillance can be customised to create a standalone access control solution, or used to enhance the existing set-up of Windows 95/98/NT User Policies.

The flexible design of Omniquad Desktop Surveillance allows it to be applied not only to various network environments, but also to portable computers. Each portable computer has the ability, in addition, to synchronise with the network server, once the user logs back on to the network.

Preventing Fraud
Opportunistic fraud involving Information Technology is on the increase.

Omniquad Desktop Surveillance acts not only as a deterrent - but also aids any fraud investigation by providing tamper-proof evidence of computer usage.

Litigation Protection
Recent harassment cases involving electronic communication tools such as email have proved very costly to many organisations. The inappropriate content of both in and out bound email communication poses a potential threat of litigation.

Companies are legally liable for materials stored on their networks. Internet content blocking tools provide only a partial solution. In most workplaces, the Internet is rarely the only platform upon which business tasks are based and carried out exclusively. Omniquad Desktop Surveillance minimises the threat of litigation by means of policing your organisation’s Acceptable Usage Policy (A.U.P.).

Key Features

Two Modes of operation

Multiple Monitoring Facilities

Adult Content Filtering
Content filtering is based on word-phrase matching and will detect adult content when it is accessed, without the need for updating blocking lists. The word-phrases can be customised on per-group or per-user basis and include undesirable material such as lottery or sports.

The word-phrase filtering can be fully customised and is active on all levels and will not only cover Internet browsing, but also newsgroups and Internet Relay Chat (IRC). When adult content is encountered, several steps can be taken: it can be blocked, the administrator can receive a network alert and the Virtual Video can be turned on or the system can be shut down.

Blocking
Omniquad Desktop Surveillance is capable of preventing the user from accessing adult content, accessing banned web sites, loading specific applications or documents, browsing specific folders in Windows Explorer or even changing workstation configuration. – Virtually any activity can be banned.

The administrator can also train the system and identify only permitted activities - the user will be prevented from doing anything else. If necessary, this can be limited only to the Internet, on pre-approved business-related web sites. Users will no be able to load any other web pages.
