How do I uninstall SpamBlocker?
What versions does it support?
How does SpamBlocker identify Spam?
The plugin uses keywords in the message
headers and message body, domain, Spam blacklists and also the
internal Banned and Safe Lists to determine the probability of a
mail being Spam and assigns the mail a score. Mails with scores
above a preset threshold of 100 are marked as spam.
How does it work?
SpamBlocker integrates with Outlook/
Outlook Express and scans your incoming POP/POP3 mail as it
comes in for Spam and other unsolicited mails. Download and
Install the plugin and it automatically starts filtering your
mail.
How do I install it?
Installation Instructions:
- Double click on the setup file (.exe)
to launch the installer. Follow the instructions.
- You will be asked if you want to
import every address from your sent folder to the Safe
List? You can do this now or
later. This process may take some time after which you will
be asked to reboot your computer.
After you reboot your computer, open
Outlook or Outlook Express. The SpamBlocker toolbar will be
visible. Also two separate folders PROCESS and
SPAMS will be created. The SpamBlocker application
icon will be visible in the System Tray.
What do I have to do? How should I use
it?
After
installing SpamBlocker and rebooting your computer, open your
Outlook/Outlook Express.
As and when
mails are downloaded, SpamBlocker processes them in the Process
folder. Spam mails will be moved to the SPAMS
folder or can even be deleted. Once mails have been identified
as legitimate they will be available in your Inbox.
The SpamBlocker
plugin evaluates each mail and gives it a Spam score. A message
with a Spam score of more than 100 is in all probability Spam.
This score is assigned based on the many factors like keywords
in the message headers and message body, domain, Spam blacklists
and also the internal Banned List.
Each time you
mark a mail as Junk or Not Junk, you
are fine-tuning the SpamBlocker application and ensuring that
future mails from that sender are accurately dealt with.
How do I ensure that my friends’ mails
reach me always?
SpamBlocker allows you to add email
addresses to a Safe List. Mails from people on this list are
always delivered to your Inbox. The Safe List contains email
addresses of senders who have sent you mail that you have
identified as Not Junk. Any future mail from these senders is
automatically delivered to your Inbox.
Also your address book
contacts are automatically added to the safe list upon first
installation. All new friends added to your safe list as soon as
you email them or reply to their emails. You can also add
addresses manually to this list.
You can also add email addresses of people
you send mail to or whose mails you reply to. To do this, in the
Safe List tab, check the Automatically add
email option.
How
can I ensure that I don’t keep getting junk from some spammer?
The Banned List is a list of email
addresses of senders who have sent you mail that you have
identified as Junk. Any future mail from these senders is
automatically tagged as Spam. You can add email addresses to
this list manually. Also when you identify a mail as Junk, the
sender is automatically added to this list. Mails from email
addresses in your Banned List can be automatically deleted.
How does SpamBlocker protect against
latest spam mails?
Whenever a user starts the system,
SpamBlocker updates its spam signatures automatically. This
ensures that you have the most recent spam definitions to filter
out any new spam mails.
How do I add or remove
emails from the Safe List or the Banned List?
Both the Safe and Banned lists can be
viewed in the SpamBlocker application screen.
The application screen can be brought up
either from the system tray icon or from the options button on
the SpamBlocker toolbar.
You can manually add or remove email
addresses in both these lists from the Safe List and Banned List
tabs in the SpamBlocker application screen.
What do I do with mail in my Spam
folder?
Mails identified as Spam are by default
available in the Spam folder. Initially it is advisable that you
see the mails in this folder also so that legitimate mails don’t
get lost. When you are reasonably sure that no false positives
occur, you can also chose to delete these straight away and not
have them moved to this folder. To do this, in the Options tab,
choose the Spam will be deleted option.
I did not import email addresses from my
sent folder while installing, can I do it now?
You can at any point to import every
address from your sent folder to the Safe List. To do this, in
the Options tab, click on the Sent Items Import button.
Can I delete mail from
people I know are spamming me?
You can choose to add them to your Blocked
list. Mails from people on your blocked list can be
automatically deleted. To do this, in the Banned List tab, chose
the Delete mail from blocked addresses option.
I banned a user by
mistake, can I remove that user from the banned list and receive
mails from him in the future?
